BE#14: Ethics in Business (Feb 23)

Salut!!

Ethics. What is it? It is a complex of moral conduct dealing with values with regards to how we classify and see the degree of human actions, motives, and ends of such actions whether it is right and/or wrong. May it be at home, in school, in the office or basically everywhere, there will always be a code of ethics. It is applicable to everyone and no one is exempted from this even students, teachers, parents, construction workers, accountants, and etc. But what is ethics really for and why do we need to observe it? Let us track it down by using the field of Accounting as an example.

In accounting, ethics is associated with the standards that they, as professionals, need to follow during their practice. To become a benchmark in their field, strictly following their standards is a must. In the real world, intelligence and ability is not everything. The people you work with, especially your business partners, will also rely on your professional integrity. Because of this, they have modified their own code of ethics with regards to their profession to suit their professional competency which aims for them to develop a high degree of discipline.

The main role of ethics in accounting is for the accountants to adhere to certain rules for them to be able to conduct accounting in a fair way. One of the biggest questions that the profession has is whether ethics can be taught or not. They believe that it can be taught since nobody was born with an inbuilt ethics in their mind and soul. The people around a person will be responsible for inculcating ethics in them as time passes.

Ethical behavior should always be observed in Accounting. People under this field are mainly tasked to serve the public interest. It is and will never be right to take advantage of the masses even though they don’t know as much as the professionals in this field do. As a public servant, they are expected to behave in such a way that will benefit not only them but also everyone around them.

That's all for now!

Merci beaucoup, Au revoir,

Carl               `
